Agates from China's Gobi desert are rare and special for many reasons. The minerals necessary for agate to form do exist in the expanse of the Gobi desert, but are relatively rare. In addition, these agates naturally form in grape-like clusters, or a botryoidal structure, which is also a less common natural formation, regardless of stone type of regional location. These stones have not been dyed or enhanced, their naturally occurring colors preserved. These purple agates are among the rarest natural color variation of agate. Their finish is entirely natural, having been sandblasted and tumbled across the desert for millienia.
