The name “Turritella” comes from the name of the genus of marine gastropod mollusks whose remains are seen within the stone. Like other Agates, Turritella Agate is a variety of Chalcedony, a mineral of the Quartz family. Agate has been discovered with artifacts from cultures of the Neolithic Period, also known as the Stone Age, occuring 10,000 years ago.
